Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise is all set to return to the role that took him to stardom. Yes! Cruise will be seen in a sequel to the 1986 box office hit 'Top Gun'.
According to industry reports, Paramount Pictures is in talks with Cruise as well as producer Jerry Bruckheimer of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' fame and director Tony Scott. Academy award winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie has been strapped in to write the script for the sequel.
Cruise shot to fame as a daring Navy fighter pilot Maverick in the original 'Top Gun'. It went on to become a huge hit worldwide, taking in more than $350 million. The sequel will have Cruise playing the original role of pilot Maverick, but this time with a smaller role. He will be an instructor dealing with a cocky new female trainee.
Reports say that the film is being pushed by David Ellison, the 27 year old son of software icon Larry Ellison, the world's sixth wealthiest man. He has raised $350 million to co-finance Paramount films and their next film is going to be 'Mission: Impossible 4'.
