The Bermuda Triangle

The 20th century saw dozens of ships and aircrafts fade into oblivion in Devil's Triangle a.k.a. the Bermuda Triangle, a.k.a. the Hoodoo Sea. Most disappeared without a trace, without even a distress call or any sign of debris left over. Vincent Gaddis put the triangle on the map in his 1964 Argosy feature. Sizes of the areas described ranged from 500,000 to 1.5 million square miles. They say size does not matter after all: some inexplicable force within it causes ships and planes to vanish.
Man's knowledge of magnetism is not as profound as it could be, making a conclusive analysis difficult. Others attribute this to extraterrestrial activity. Many blame it on human error. The absence of bodies might be explained by the fact that the waters are infested with sharks.

Historically, man has explained odd incidents thanks to mythology, demons, monsters, or extraterrestrial invaders. When mankind is willing to set aside its preconceived notions, look at facts and draw up a conclusion, then answers will rise to the (water's) surface. But, before you think conspiracy, the area is notorious for unpredictable weather, so extreme, in fact, that it could annihilate any mass in the area

After savoring the scent of each other, the partners press noses against each other's cheeks and freeze for a minute of two.

An Indonesian woman has given birth to a 19.2-pound baby boy, the heaviest newborn ever recorded in the country.

The baby, who is 24.4 inches long, was born by cesarean section Monday at a public hospital in North Sumatra province, a gynecologist who took part in the operation told AFP.

"This heavy baby made the surgery really tough, especially the process of taking him out of his mum's womb. His legs were so big," Binsar Sitanggang said.
The boy initially was given oxygen to overcome breathing problems but is otherwise in healthy condition, the doctor said.

"He's got strong appetite, every minute, it's almost non-stop feeding," he said.

Tough Time for Chocolate Lovers :(

Chocolate-lovers face paying more for their fix as the cocoa market endures its biggest shortage for 40 years.

The price of cocoa in London rose to £2 055 a ton this week, the highest since 1985.

The rise is the result of poor harvests on the Ivory Coast, which grows 40 per cent of the world's cocoa beans, as well as trouble with supplies from other major growers.

The El Nino weather phenomenon has hit supplies from Indonesia, the world's third largest producer, and Ecuador, the seventh largest.

This is on top of a three percent surge in demand, fuelled by a move towards western tastes in China and India.

Experts say this is likely to push up the cost of chocolate bars such as Mars Bars, Kit Kats and Dairy Milk.

Andrew Bonfield, of confectionery giant Cadbury, said that if cocoa prices stayed this high "there would be no choice but to increase the price of chocolate".

Experts worry that falling output on the Ivory Coast will leave a lasting global shortage of cocoa.

Farmers there, who are heavily taxed, have neither the funds nor incentives to buy fertiliser or replant to increase output.

America’s Most Expensive Restaurant - The French Laundry

The French Laundry is an American restaurant located in Yountville, California, in the Napa Valley. The chef and owner of the French Laundry is Thomas Keller. The restaurant is a perennial top five finisher in the annual Restaurant Magazine list of the Top 50 Restaurants of the World. It will cost you $240, plus tax, just for the privelege of taking a seat at a French Laundry table (service is included), but at least you get to "own" that cush chair for several hours. A simple meal in this restaurant will cost you around a $1000. But at least we can be sure that there are no genetically modified products.

The dishes are served in very small portions, to emphasize that their cuisine is "a work of art" and not just food.
