Rafael Nadal World no.1 in ATP Rankings

Congratulates Rafael Nadal for winning the title on Roland Garros clay for the fifth time in six years. The 24-year-old fellow Spaniard beat Swedens' Robin Soderling 6-4 6-2 6-4. (Nadal lost to the Sweden in last year's fourth round).

The man, who lost the French Open title and the no.1 ranking 12 months ago finally, banished his own doubts about whether he will be able to return to his very best form after a series of injury problems.

Nadal who has been "The Man on clay" from the very first year he played at Roland Garros described his 7th Grand Slam victory last Sunday as "one of the most important".
With this victory, Rafael Nadal returned to No. 1 spot in ATP rankings this Monday, supplanting his rival Roger Federer since last June. Federer was just left one week short of matching Pete Sampras' career record of 286 total weeks at No. 1.

Nadal now has a clear 22-0 record on clay this season. It will be even bigger next year at Roland Garros, for it will be Nadal against history. Nadal will compete to equal Bjorn Borg's record of six French Open titles as the Spaniard attempts to cement his status of the best ever on the clay surface.
