The sequel will have Cruise playing the original role of pilot Maverick, but this time with a smaller role. He will be an instructor dealing with a cocky new female trainee.
Reports say that the film is being pushed by David Ellison, the 27 year old son of software icon Larry Ellison, the world's sixth wealthiest man. He has raised $350 million to co-finance Paramount films and their next film is going to be 'Mission: Impossible 4'.
